My week pan fishing

I had an outstanding week in the pan fishing area. I went to a little honey hole, I used a regualer size 8 hook and a white pegleg(rubber type worm). I fished for about an hour and caught nearly a hundred fish, not all were keepers but it sure is fun catching blue gills, sun fish, crappies and perch, Granted i had to do a lot of weeding out but i did catch enough for a meal. I also released most of them back in the water, but what fun I had it was an awesome couple of days. using my ugly stick and shimano real combo six foot ultra light, gotta love it.

Last week fishing on Lake Gogebic Michigan

Last week my brother in law and father were up fishing lake gogebic for walleyes. My brother in law use to fish in walleye tournaments, but has since given it up for the family. Being a die hard walleye man, going to a lake such as Lake Gogebic is usually an awesome time. Last week it was not, they jigged, they used planer boards they tried casting, anything and everything you could imagine, but could only muster up twenty fish all seven days. This is not a good week in fishing. Better luck next time guys.

Bucks are out there

We have seen many bucks around the area lately. Little bucks, okay bucks, and some monster bucks. We haven't seen as many bucks this year as years before. A little disappointing but that is the way things go sometimes. We just home to see one to shot this hunting season. We have been practicing with the bows so when that big one walks out it won't get away.

hunting for a new bow

While hunting for a new bow dont go after the one with the big name. Last fall i was looking for a new bow, and the best advice I can give any one is shoot as many as you can. I shot Hoyt, High Country, Bear, PSE, Mathews, Browning, Bowtech and even some others. My advice just cause your buddy has one doesn't mean it will fit your needs. After shooting all these write down how it felt to shoot it smoothe, vibrates after release, let off point jerks, list the good and bad then go back and get the one you feel comfortable with. I settled on the PSE dream season. It felt the most comfortable to me. I had a PSE 1000 edge series before this and it lasted me 16 years and never replace any strings but sights and restsi did replace. I only say let the bow make up your mind, not your buddies or your buddies opinion. Good Luck hunting for that bow.

Hunting for Bear

Recently talking to a colleague. He said that they were out trapping bear and showed me pictures of a three hundred and twenty five pounder in central wisconsin. He said that the bear population seems to be up from what he could tell from trapping and collaring bear. He said dont be afraid to shoot collared bear but instead call and give the DNR the information on the collar to help them identify travel patterns. I've been waiting for a tag for eight years now hoping to get the oppotunity to hunt one for the first time so hopefully next year will be my year. Good luck bear hunters in the next months. Also if your baiting and the bear stop coming try something with high protein (Sun flower seeds) good luck.

fishing

Ive been out fishing and its been spectacular. Limiting out every day and enjoying the summer meals of fish Ill be taking a break shortly on fishing and preparing another food plot for deer hunting. I discovered that deer love sesame when its in the green stage and that birds love it when its done and ready to harvest. Well off to work.

Dam Project

It really bursts my bubble that you can have a pond drained for two years, and knowing that your going to fix retaining walls at a later date, why not have contractors come in bid on project or at least get an idea of what they may have to deal with. Why didn't the city of marion take pictures of the retaining walls to show contractors what they were dealing with. My other question is for Lunda Shame on you, Why didn't you put any type of rebar in the wall with the dam in it. especially with a state hwy across it. Thanks for nothing. The people of Marion put hard earned money into restocking their little mill pond, with fish once again to become a popular fishing spot and not only that the Lions Club has lost a lot of support or funds from not being able to hold its annual fishing derby. The money they raise goes for all types of people and projects to help communitites that are in need. Hope this is a learning experience for this and other communities if draining something take pictures of everything and if hiring contractors get these pictures to them. Thanks.

fishing

Last week up in the upper Michigan area of gogebic the fishing was outstanding according to some marion area fishermen. In their own words we slaughtered the walleye and perch. Next week another group will be headed up and Im sure the report should be in on how they did in two weeks. Way to go guys from Marion Wi.

Camping

Camping season is here. Yeah!!! I have found a little trick to help keep the mosquitoes at bay, minced garlic. Wal-Mart has a half quart for under $4 and all you have to do is fling it out into your yard with a fork or spoon where you are going to be or if you are camping. It helps with ants also. It is a cheap way to help not get eaten alive.
